CommRow opened their doors on October 1st for their grand opening. Thanks to pro climber Emily Harrington and Boone Speed Photography for joining EP and capturing images of the tallest manufactured climbing wall in the world and the event itself. Beginners enjoyed the first pitch of the outdoor wall, while experienced climbers were able to test their skills on the multi-pitch climb going to 164 ft. above the 2nd story balcony. Everyone came down with eyebrows raised, wide-open eyes and energized by the atmosphere - a much different peripheral view with sharp angles, moving traffic and growing crowds cheering below to the standard stream and wind blowing in the trees. To CommRow and EP this meant hands down, goal achieved - there is now a new place on the map in Nevada for a unique experience in sport climbing.
This was a great event, hosted by a wonderful team. The pro athletes spread their knowledge and excitement with visiting climbers. The opening also introduced unique eateries, bars and music venues to bring the urban adventure setting full circle. Friendly open spaces provide great social gathering spaces to ‘hang’, share stories and meet new friends. This was a much appreciated change to the surrounding casinos.
As the doors opened and the crowds grew, we quickly learned what the people in Reno were all about - getting active, being fit and looking for excitement. We look forward to the expanding adventure planned by this gutsy developer. And we will certainly be back to ‘hang, climb, stay’ as CommRow opens their hotel portion of the project in the spring of 2012.
